Kim B’s story

Okay, So I'm the chick who... thought it was normal to work 3 jobs... yes 3 jobs at the same time in order to provide for my kids. I thought that in additon to parent volunteering, being an active girl scout leader, raising 3 extraordinary young ladies as a single parent, feeding the homeless, teaching dance and movement in my kids' school as well as the  school I was hired at and working retail at a major clothing store etc., etc., and doing it  all successfully was normal. Functioning on 5-6 hrs of sleep a night was my normal (when I slept). Until I became my mother's caregiver (she had alzheimer's) and my mind, body, and soul decided we had had ENOUGH!

At 44 yrs old, I found myself on a retreat at "ye olde mental ward", here in paradise with a fake smile on my face telling all who would listen, I'm fine...even though I had suffered a disassociative fugue that morning and failed to recognize my daughter and grandangel. I got help and after 2 yrs and many many different meds, and many therapists, I swallowed the concrete egg of my diagnosis.. Bipolar Disorder 2. Now 5 yrs after my diagnosis, I'm learning that it's a blessing not a curse. I'm still walking the fine line of good day-bad day but  at least I'm walking, and  knowing I'm not alone. I'm in great company with the world's most creative talented geniuses in every field known to man gives me hope and helps me to realize that I'm still a special person who can still help to make my world a little better than when I found it. So get help, don't give up no matter what. There is strength in numbers and there isn't any shame in our battle. We are in great company.
