  1. More teenagers die from prescription drugs than heroin and cocaine combined.
  2. Over 60% of teenagers said drugs were sold, used or kept at their school.
  3. One in nine high school seniors (upper sixth) has tried synthetic marijuana, and 1.3% have used bath salts, which can have incredibly adverse side effects.
  4. Teenagers who drink are fifty times more likely to use cocaine than those who don’t drink.
  5. 64% of teenage painkiller abusers say they got them from friends or relatives.
  6. In 2012, 15% of high school seniors used prescription drugs, but 35% felt that regular use was risky.
  7. 28% of teens know somebody who has used ecstasy, and 17% know more than one person.
  8. Adderall (stimulant ADHD medication) use has increased from 5.4% to 7.6% in the period 2009-2012 among high school seniors.
  9. By the 8th grade (Year 9 equivalent), 29.5% of teenagers have consumed alcohol, 15.5% have smoked, and 15% have smoked cannabis.
  10. Teens whose parents talk to them regularly about the dangers of drugs are 42 percent less likely to use drugs than those whose parents don't. However, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.
  11. 6.5% of high school seniors smoke daily, up from 5.1% five years ago. Meanwhile, only 20.6% of 12th graders think occasional use is harmful, while 44% see regular use as harmful, which are the lowest numbers since 1983.
